I've been out of the house for two weeks. Well, a week and a half if you count the fact that Tracey and the kids are at the beach and have been there for four days. I've been housesitting, so while I'm away from her and the kids, I'm actually back in the house. Er, their house I guess.

I got here Tuesday. The night before I came over to take the kids out for dinner. I took them to Chuck E. Cheese by myself. There was only one problem with that. I took them to Chuck E. Cheese by myself. Anyway, I got here Tuesday night for a nice break from Barry. I love Barry like a brother, but it's weird for me. He's a great roommate though and the rent is just right: $300 a month plus utilities. I can easily do that. Pros are the price, rooming with a single man who happens to be a good friend, and being a good ways from Tracey. Cons are having to live with someone new, not having much to call your own, and being a good ways from the kids. Cest la vie, I'll take what I can get for the moment.

So I drove over here from work a few days ago and found the house in the same deplorable condition as I left it Monday night. Dirty dishes in the sink. Clothes in the dryer. No food in the icebox. One beer. Okay, I didn't drink except for a couple of glasses of wine. Yes, Penguin bought his own bottle of wine and is enjoying it. God help me.

For three days I've ignored the mess and filth. Well maybe a little filth, you know? After a kickass dinner of fresh guac and some mushroom brie (no, I didn't do Taco Bell, Susan), I started cleaning, aided by this nice little MP3-CD I put on the sound system. Currently it's ELO's Time album. It's quite me. I've cleaned up every stray thing on the floors of four rooms, put up the clothes I found on the sofa, picked up the toys and books and old cups and torn paper and gum (!) and everyotherfuckingthing that I found out there. It's been a chore, but my final goal is to leave this house spotless. I may not be able to throw insults at her any more, but me putting this place in a spotless state, done so especially for the kids, is some of the sweetest revenge I can take out on her. Mmmm.

Tomorrow I'm off to the market, not once but twice. Early for buying stuff and bringing it home for storage, and later, to go to lunch with Mom and Dad. I'm sure it will be some gourmet fare like Bud's Broiler's Chili Cheese BBQ burger with onions. Very light lunch, yes it is.

The kids come home tomorrow. Grace has specifically requested that I be here when I get back. I'm going to try to do something with them on Sunday. I'm also thinking about taking them to the park on Sunday for a picnic, but I'm a little loose on the details now. It'll be fun, wherever we decide to go. Hmm, maybe the aquarium, it's nice and cool in there.

Back to the cleaning...
