Although I've been saving up my personal adventures for a real post, I had to make a comment on this story

Jefferson Parish council demanding answers from the Corps of Engineers

The Jefferson Parish council said Monday that they are frustrated with the changing timeline they've experienced for the 17th Street Canal repairs, and they're hoping a letter they’re drafting to the Army Corps of Engineers will help them get some answers.

Members of the council held a joint meeting Monday with corps officials and local residents to give an update on the canal repairs.

According to parish leader Jennifer Sneed, the changing deadline has prompted the council to demand answers in writing.

She said parish residents are questioning the corps about the risks they face living near the 17th Street Canal.

“I’m tired of the delays, I’m tired of the goal changing, I’m tired of the lack of urgency, we want to know what they’re going to do and when they’re going to do it,” said Sneed.

“Were trying to build structures that have never been built at an unprecedented pace. Schedules have been given, there have been some difficulties with that and right now were just trying to give best information we can,” responded Chris Accardo with the Corps of Engineers.

Sneed said the best information they have does not sit well with her, and she said the corps is not letting the parish use their own drainage system, but the corps disagreed.

“They can use their drainage system just at reduced rate. Do you want to take your risk with drainage water,” said Accardo.

Council members will sign and deliver a letter to the corps Tuesday morning, and they said they want answers immediately.

In the letter, the council wants to know what the criteria is for closing the 17th St. Canal floodgates, including at what wind speeds and water levels the gates will close when storm surge threatens the area.

Fuck them. Fuck Aaron Broussard. Fuck all of the Jefferson council. For every time I've heard the poor Jeffersonians complain about Orleans parish getting all the attention, they can just go to hell. That is the parish that shut down the canal on their side, worsening the floodwaters in Orleans. That's the parish that kept people out in the worst of the storm. They've had minimal flooding, a lion's share of the tax dollars, and lots of big mouths.

This is a TEAM effort. These goddamned parishes are still operating under the delusion that working apart will help them in the long run. Stupidity. It's business as usual, and the taxpaying citizen can just sit here finger-fucking themselves waiting for the next storm as far as the politicians are concerned.

Idiots.
