So I write this internal email yesterday, detailing a lot of frustration we're having at work. Specifically, I mean as a contractor we're having issues with the client, my former employer, badmouthing us about our service. There are the generalistic jabs, how poor a service company we are. I don't deny that. The techno-bureaucracy runs thick at an outsourcer, so getting anything done within reason is usually a long winding road. When you're a technician, however, you provide the front line work, so everyone looks at you as the problem. Doesn't matter that the policies set forth by the companies that signed the contracts were set in stone, and that you're bound to said contracts backwards, forwards, and upside down. When Charlie Dumbass can't figure out how to scan a document, and you can't get to him because you've got thirty workstations to deploy, you're the bad guy and your company sucks.

Well at my place, that problem is more pronounced. The manager of the IT department, really the go-between of my outsourcer and their enterprise, has been constantly harping on how bad our service is, right down to us personally. This is a carry-over from the last IT manager as well. I can't stand it, because when you have a department manager needing something, and he can't get it in five minutes, the immediate reaction is "Fucking Initech! Can't do a god-damned thing about anything. Morons!" It's become really personal, too. Which sucks. You do your best, work your ass off for a bunch of incompetent computer users, and get jacked by management because your management is as stupid as they are.

Well, yesterday, I wrote to an account manager about the issue, detailing how long this has gone on. The email chain went on, continued by a bunch of messages about a specific need to create a user account. The ticket was lost, or some other bullshit, and the guy had been without network access for a month. I wrote to the guy about how the local manager was badmouthing us and it was getting pretty hairy around here. I come in this morning and this one service tech, who I think is a complete waste of paycheck anyway, has taken that email chain and forwarded it to said IT manager with both my comments and those of the manager I was writing to.

What the...

I come in this morning and get blindsided by the IT manager, claiming she never said such things. Nice. I countered (much to my stupidity) and said that was not the case, that we get it from every department manager, and that the source was her and the manager that preceded her. She asked for the names of the people who said that. I flippantly responded that I'd start documenting it for her and I walked the hell out of that office.

Needless to say, I wrote a very unkind email to that technician about the entire incident. I don't think she's recovered either, as I had a manager call me and ask that I not say those unkind things again.

Calgon, take me away.

Holy smokes. In my years as a voter in this nation, I've never seen a more impressive display of democracy in motion. Now that Montana is projected to have elected a Democrat, the Senate is evenly divided (don't forget Mr. Cheney's one tiebreaker). That makes Senator Joe Lieberman one of the most powerful men in the world. Suckers. The Dems dissed him, the Republicans can't stand him, and he breaks ranks to be an Independent. He's the one vote that both parties need to make anything happen. Amazing.

And what the hell is wrong with voters that would cast a vote for Congressman William Jefferson? How messed up is your sense of politics that you believe a man who hid $90,000 in his freezer would be a good person to represent you in Washington? Morons. That's what's wrong with New Orleans.

Whatever. I'm in the mood to vent today.
