So the stomache bug that took me out last week proceeded to wreck havoc on the rest of the Penguin household this weekend. Friday afternoon, Tracey fell into bed and didn't come out until Saturday afternoon. That left me with the three young ones over at my brother's house for the start of Hanukkah. I felt kind of out of place for a while, as the only people there were youngish associates of Katie's law firm. You can read that as "fish out of water" as far as I'm concerned. I knew a couple of the folks there, but it's hard to split time watching the three tornadoes and keeping up with group conversation. Things improved when another set of kids showed up. I gave up my seat at the dreidel table, giving enough time to grab a plate and eat. The respite didn't last long: came up saying he wasn't feeling well.

Long story short, Robert blew a technicolor yawn in the middle of the night. Twice actually, but I didn't find the second little one until the next day. Yuck. With Tracey sick, I had to clean up everything and get him back in bed. He didn't remember a thing the next day of course. He missed a party down the street and his own party was cancelled on Sunday. I wasn't allowing him to infect ten kids at once with a virus. Tracey thought I was too cautious, but I stayed my ground. I was wrong of course, as he was running around like a banshee on Sunday.

Saturday night, one of the neighbors had a party, so I escaped the Hot Zone for a while. This is my new neighbor, who had told me once they were very big in the Irish community, but I had no idea just how big. The owners of Finn McCool's were there, as were most of the Irish musicians from around town. Five or six kilts filled in the remainder of the color and much drinking was had. Grabbed a double nightcap at my "new" neighborhood bar and passed out for about three.

And then the Saints lost. I'd have had another drink, but I'm done till Christmas Eve. I'm too pickled for my own good as of late.

Did some new work today, helping out a poor sap in Michigan who didn't know right from left as far as backup applications went. Still working on that as we speak actually.

Also found out today that a friend in Austin, a guy I've been buddies with for twenty years, finally decided on the weekend he's packing his house for his big move to Montana: Superbowl weekend. Yeah, so if the Saints make it to the Big Dance, I'll be in Austin. I've got mixed feelings on that, but I'm sucking it up and going anyway. I'd say, "the Saints might not make it," but you know, of course, they will, since I won't be in New Orleans for the ensuing party. Figures.
