hurricane deja vu
Aug. 27th, 2008 10:38 amNow, I know the five-day forecast from the NHC leaves something to be desired in the way of accuracy, but I'm not comfortable with what I'm seeing here.

Consider this: three years ago, Katrina struck on a Monday at 8am. This prediction is almost exactly 72 hours difference, and on the same track. I know the drill, it's five days out, accurate predictions end at 2 days, you have plenty of time, yada, yada, yada. I know all that. My friends and neighbors know that. But guess what? This town is in a fit over this forecast.
As a matter of fact...so am I. There's not enough time. A Cat3 storm, on that path, will obliterate New Orleans. If you think the levees were bad then, they're even worse now because the Corps ofAssholes Engineers have been making their "modifications". The pumps don't work as fast, the streets are collapsing into drain pipes and the levee on the Metairie side of the 17th St canal started bulging out at the start of summer.
Hell. I don't even have wind insurance any more.
AND I'm supposed to go to the Saints game on Thursday night!!!
Aigh!
Excuse me while I go make a cocktail to soothe my nerves. Oh, wait. That's right. I can't do that because I'm now on high alert for work and will likely be busy for the next 36 hours making sure data gets preserved for the worst-case scenario.
Mine is a charmed life.
