As an amateur weather observer, I do not place great faith in hurricane path prediction past a 48 hours window.

However.

I do not like that the five day path for Ernesto places that storm squarely on the way to Grand Isle as a category 3.

You know these things always take a sharp right turn to the east before they land. Even Katrina did that, but that cunt was starting way more north, near Florida, so there wasn't time to squeal the tires and head east as far as she was supposed to.

Also, as far as I can recall, Katrina didn't get the wind-shear descrescendo effect in the Caribbean as Ernesto will. That's a point for our team.

I'm with you on the once-bitten-twice-shy gut reaction to these things. (I read your post and muttered, "Shitfuckpissfuck..." as I hurriedly called up weather.com) But if we start doing that every time there's a puff of wind in the Caribbean, we're going to pluck ourselves bald by October.

The brief (and idiotic) thought crossed my mind the other day in the short, slightly breezy downpour in the afternoon, "Oh my god! This is the big one!" WTF? What have I been reduced to? Little scurrying creature.

I'm not as ruffled by the possibility of a storm as I am the preparation, both work and personal, for possibly leaving. I know what to do and not do this time, but in any case I just don't like it.

I believe my house could withstand another deluge, but I'll tell you, that storm that pulled through yesterday left 18 inches of water at the intersection of Jeff Davis and Canal. Not a good sign for people recovering from last go round. Dem pumps, dey ain't werkin, cher.

I know I'll row my boat down the River of Denial until proved otherwise. As far as I'm concerned, I'll be sitting down to dinner at Dickie Brennan's Steak House next Saturday for my brother's bachelor party, no ifs ands or buts. Labor Day weekend will NOT be compromised. NO!!! But I'll still keep my wary eye on wunderground.com for updates.

We've been thinking about making a visit to Hotlanta Labor Day weekend anyway (I have a 4-dayer) to see Miss Andy and just take a little break from here.

Part of me is all: well, so maybe we leave a day earlier. And make reservations for a room NOW. And pack up the kitties. (I just got them some sleepy pills at the vet, so this year will be much smoother.)

The other part of me is all: IF I LEAVE THEY WON'T LET ME COME BACK.

And then there's the last part, paddling down d' Nile with you, thinking about a stress free visit with Andy while NOLA safely watches the storms pass by. I like that part the best.

i have a post with the 5 day forecast on it. my dad already has rooms booked. my mom is already thinking about where we're gonna go and i'm already worried about what will happen with school.

but. foremost in my mind, I'm trying to keep the view that this is just the 5 day forecast. wait and see.

Separate the ifs from the reality. Deal with that. I'm saving the worry for when I'm out the door. Then I'll worry.

Until then, I have a life. And like I sad to [livejournal.com profile] marquisdd, that storm doesn't exist in my right hemisphere, so I can keep my sanity. LA LA LA
