Is it safe to come out now?

Wow. That's a pretty amazing amount of drama to fit into an 18 hour day. The roof is patched. I'm not happy with the slightly mismatched color, but what are you gonna do? The van's windows are restored. I've patched up the house windows. Anything else was gravy.

As we were cleaning up in the yard, we kept seeing bits of glass. Everywhere. It was the safety glass from the van. Thousands of glass granules spread through the yard, little glistening pebbles of Honda OEM. Anyone have a clue how I'll get rid of that? I thought about a shop-vac, but I keep imagining I'll look like Rick Moranis in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, peering through the lawn with a magnifying glass, trying to vacuum up every last shard. I need a Hoover for St. Aug grass.

And I missed a crucial day of work, as I'm preparing for a long weekend off for Carnival. I may work Thursday, which I wasn't, just to make up the time. That's crap, really, because I wanted to be up by Napoleon early for the three parades Thursday night. Everybody say "Muses!".

Shit. I'm going to bed.

Where are you watching the parade? The spot we've been using in front of the rec center is pretty awesome, but the neutral in front of Sophie Wright looks pretty good, too, as you can buy a bathroom pass for their fundraiser. Beer, too. Vicious cycle, that is.

we like it right between magazine and camp - right wehre you saw us the other night...the parking is good right on the other side of magazine, so we walk less...we go to Ms. Mae's to pee and for Bloody Mary's...plus our friend is opening a cafe right next to ms mae's and is set to open friday, so that will be a kid-friendly pee-spot for the rest of the weekend...

Is that the same cafe that was advertising for help wanted on the NOLA community? What is that place?

[identity profile] dethcherub.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Cafe Bayard...my friend Mark owns the building - it used to be the gothic statue shop...he's making an authentic Parisian Cafe...he imported a bunch of stuff in to stock the place...he's been trying to open it for almost a year now...finally has everything in place....

have you been to Little Tokyo yet?

[identity profile] nawlins-penguin.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
No! Have you? I'm dying to hear a review from someone I know. I used to hit the one on Causeway, the original, but I don't know if this is the same owner. I did hear the hibachi tables, once advertised on the sign, are not actually there.

[identity profile] dethcherub.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
haven't been...i'm thinking the weekend after MG we'll hit it up...maybe make it a preemptive nolaeats dinner and have you guys, freddy and leslie, and us...

Hmm. That Friday might be a very good night.

[identity profile] dethcherub.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds perfect to us....kids, no kids? either way, we'll be there....

mmm...suuuuushiiii....

[identity profile] nawlins-penguin.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Kids, no kids. Good, good question. Let me research the issue.

[identity profile] dethcherub.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
yay!...do you want to meet on the parade route, or meet at our house and caravan down there?

btw, you drive really slow! it was rough having you follow us...LOL!

[identity profile] ef-ex-ay.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
ha! leslie doesn't think I drive slow. I'm just a bad follower.

we can meet you guys there.

[identity profile] nawlins-penguin.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)

I'm stumped about how to clean up the glass. You probably want that and the asbestos tile bits away from where kids can chew on them. All I can think of is weed whack the hell out of it.

[identity profile] dethcherub.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"kids can chew on them" LOL! I can just picture Robbie munching on some shingle...teeehheeee...

[identity profile] nawlins-penguin.livejournal.com 2007-02-14 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't even go there. I was having a helluva time keeping the neighborhood kids out of the debris. I mean, really, there were bits of odd things everywhere. I'm waiting to find little asbestos treasures hidden in their rooms.

What a day. I'm glad to hear you and fam and safe.

Now go and enjoy the parades! You've earned it, by god.
