busy busy busy busy busy

Got swept up in a timekeeping implementation for the past week. Built three servers from scratch, little or no documentation, and then suffered through a humiliating server-build review where I discovered the actual build checklist for the master server had never been handed to me.

I'll translate from the tech-vernacular: imagine constructing an IKEA entertainment cabinet with no tools, and once done you're given not only screwdriver and wrench, but also the full instructions in ten different languages and holograms to guide your way.

Bloody project management bastards. To hell with them.

It matters not, as tomorrow, yes, dear friend, tomorrow I am free. At close of business today, I begin a seven day respite from this server-laden hell. Vacation, capital V, last letter n, with a huge Mardi Gras right in the middle. While the weatherman continues to throw gloom amidst his forecast, I retain a rosy outlook for the next seven days, with occasional downpours of bourbon, scattered sobriety, and widespread THC cloudiness.

Carnival season. Ahhhhhh. I sigh a great breath of king-caked contentment. Beads for all! That reminds me, I need to get my ladder together for tomorrow evening. Special occasion we have, yes. Mmm hmm. It's to be a large affair on the Avenue for the Muses parade. I think about twenty of my 'hoodies will be down there soaking it all in, plus I plan to wonder about to reconnoiter theredpanther's parade spot, perhaps ending up in the Quarter tomorrow night for some drinksies. By that point it may end up being drunksies.

So begins the onslaught, parades for every night until Fat Tuesday proper. Endymion rolls at an ungodly 3:30 this year, uptown to boot, so no Penguin Party this year. That makes only the second time in fourteen years I don't have an Endymion gathering. How sad. Next year it will be picked up with much fanfare.
