Jackass of the Day
Jun. 17th, 2010 10:41 amIs this really setting an example for GOP leadership? Rep. Joe Barton decided he'd take the high road by apologizing to BP for them having to establish the $20 billion "slush fund":
What? Barton went on to say:
Maybe it's just me, but if you wanted to ensure you wouldn't be re-elected, this might be the perfect way to give your opponents the right ammunition. I know he's representing Texas, a state admittedly thick with Big Oil connections, but he might have just given Tony Hayward a blowjob in lieu of making that comment. You have to wonder just how much Big Oil is putting in that guy's pockets. I understand top GOP lawmakers have some contractual obligations to badmouth anything from Obama, but this falls into the same pit as Senators Murkowski, Inhofe and Vitter objecting to the removal of the liability cap for oil spills.
Ugh.
“It is a tragedy of the first proportion that a private corporation can be subjected to what I would characterize as a shakedown, in this case a $20 billion dollar shakedown”
What? Barton went on to say:
“I am ashamed of what happened in the White House yesterday"
