Disney buys Marvel?

One word: noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Disney to buy Marvel for $4 billion

Well, there goes the rest of the Avengers series. Disney's the kiss of death for superhero movies. Unless it involves a teenage Kurt Russell. In tennis shoes.

haven't the marvel movies been less than stellar anyway?

not that i mean disney can necessarily do them better. but i didn't think they'd been that great yet anyway.

yay computer who wore tennis shoes!

Depends on which movie you're talking about. They finally got things right with Ironman, and their plans to expand the Avengers universe is fabulous.

Disney just wants the dollar signs. Unless they establish a Marvel division with the same autonomy as Pixar, I see a future with many, many, many straight-to-video sequels.

ahh okay...i was thinking xmen and spiderman. i liked ironman.

i think disney has potential with it. there's more money to be had in better movies, so it's in their best interest to actually do a good job. guess it just depends who's running the show.

Well, the X-men and Spidey movies did really well financially, though their allegiance to the Marvel canon was less than impressive. Indeed, the recent Wolverine movie didn't even stick with the history of the first X-men feature. Regardless, money was made.

There's an interesting reference to the Pixar folks being excited, though. I imagine Pixar special effects would go a long way in improving the line.

hey, Sky High is a great movie...........

Okay. One with Kurt Russell, sans tennies.

One of the articles I was reading about this pointed out that all the movies deals already made will likely be unaffected by this. The same article also pointed out that Pixar has done the same thing since being purchased as they did before, and that Disney also owns Miramax, which gave us Dogma.

i'm just linking this because it sounds really positive. not that i'm saying you're wrong and he's right, i just wanted to transfer some peace of mind maybe? (assuming he's right...maybe he's wrong)

No, he's right. There's much good that could come from this. One interesting note. This means Marvel won't have any more tie-ins with kids meals in fast food outlets. Disney nicked that.

hmmm. i want all the toys to be penguins and pandas and zebras anyway :D

Stay away from my penguins then.

Hey, did I ever tell how many penguins are in the collection? I don't recall the exact number, but in the hundreds. I need to get that trunk out of the attic.

HUNDREDS?!?! You are rivaling my mawmaw and her hippo collection.

Well, yeah. I've been collecting for...longer than you've been alive.
