How rich is the symbolism: this is a brown pelican, the Louisiana state bird, found at Breton Sound.

Heavy oil began washing up there this week.



Breton Sound is the nesting ground for 4500 brown pelicans, a population that rebounded from the edge of extinction.

Thus does the seed of greed when sown bring forth a crop of death. Why couldn't Christianity have adopted the idea of "Tikkun Olam" as opposed to "Damn righteousness, we like the kings?".

BP needs to shut down anything else they're doing and fix whatever can be fixed and put every resource they have to cleaning it up NOW. No more executives, no more janitors in the offices, no more gas stations, no future, give it all up, face the massive CRAP they've taken on the gulf NOW. It is unconscionable that this company can continue with anything else.

I was bawling my eyes out seeing the first photo. I can barely believe there is anything else in the newspaper. It should be nothing but photos like this.
